Update on Some Churchill Project Recommendations

Scouts and Scouters,

As you may or may not know, at the 2020 National Annual Meeting in May, National Chair-Elect Dan Ownby spoke about the future of the BSA and some recommended proposals in regards to the Churchill Project. Mr. Ownby begins speaking at mark 48:30. The full video of the General Session, shared on the Boy Scouts of America’s Vimeo site, can be viewed Here.

One of the changes that were proposed was to, “End all youth programs at 18 and build a volunteer corps for young adults over 18.” Obviously, this would have directly affected Venturing, Sea Scouts, Exploring, the Order of the Arrow, and possibly other areas of the BSA programs.

Fortunately, on August 12th, ScoutingWire announced (READ MORE) that this and some other proposed recommendations would not be considered at this time.

As a Venturing Crew Advisor, this is GREAT NEWS to me and I am happy to share this with you all. Now let’s get out there and continue to recruit!

Yours in Service,

Ed Copeland
Advisor – Crew 111
