The Children’s Parade, part of Manatee Heritage Days, is scheduled for Friday, March 30th. The parade (walking) begins at the Manatee Fairgrounds in Palmetto around 10:00 a.m. and ends by 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Park (See attached map). The parade is a great opportunity for Scouting to be on display before the public. While it would be outstanding for unit leaders to be present and to participate, we are aware that this is not possible for many who cannot take off from work, HOWEVER, PARENTS of scouts should be INFORMED AND ENCOURAGED to bring their boys (and siblings) to the event. As long as we have a couple of registered adults on-site (which we will) and the parents are willing to accompany their children on the (less than 1-mile) walk, we will be good to go.
All you have to do is to make sure that your boys and their parents complete the attached waiver and bring it with them to the fairgrounds by 9:30 a.m. so that everyone may be rounded up into one group and notified of their place within the parade lineup.
The gathering location is on the east side of the grounds on 13th St. W. near the exhibition hall at Gate 5.
Suggestion: Unless, those participating in the parade are being dropped off at the starting point and then picked up at the end, I recommend that they arrive earlier (8:30-9:15), park at or near Sutton Park, then walk to the fairgrounds. At parade’s end, they can get in their vehicles for the ride home or take some time to play at the Party in the Park before departure.
Pack 41 is supplying a couple of games/activities for the Party in the Park. It would be really nice to have a few older scouts to assist with running them.
Please contact Lisa Van Beuren (941) 448-3451 as soon as possible to let her know about how many to expect.
Help get the word out about the Scouting Program!
